Ameliahhhh Island Plantation is more like it.
Golf, nature,
beaches, swimming, hiking, kayaking, tennis, bicycling, and of course the
wonderfully fun Segway tours provide you with plenty to do at this quite
respite, just 29 miles north of Jacksonville, Florida. And if that's
not enough there's an incredible spa and did I mention shopping? If
you're looking for a great family vacation without leaving the United
States, this may be just the location for you.
Lodging options abound. There is the standard hotel option, or
perhaps you prefer a villa rental? The hotel rooms (each with a
balcony) offer great views of the Atlantic Ocean with comfortable,
pleasantly decorated rooms. Each villa is privately owned, so the
decor varies from one unit to the next. Some of the villas are
located around the three golf courses, so you have a view of the beautifully
landscaped course. For those of you who want to be close to the
courts, you can rent a villa that skirts the Racquet Park. Of course
many of the villas are located beach front and offer grand vistas of the
ocean.
Activities abound for families of all ages. In fact, this would be
the perfect location for that multigenerational vacation you have been
thinking about. Conde Naste' Traveler called Amelia Island Plantation
"One of the best places to stay in the whole world". There is
literally something for everyone at Amelia Island Plantation.
Getting around the Plantation is a cinch. Convenient trams are
always available to take you from one place to another. Or, if you
prefer, you can rent a golf cart and drive yourself! Amelia Island
Plantation home of the Bausch and Lomb Championships, is known for world
class tennis. The tennis center boasts 23 Har Tru courts and an
expanded pro shop. I can't think of a better place to work on your
backhand! For those who prefer hitting a smaller ball, Amelia's links
offer 54 holes on its three courses designed by such greats as Pete Dye, Tom
Fazio and Bobby Weed.
The Nature Center offers programs for kids and adults alike. My
favorite was the Nature Tour by Segway. It was so much fun! Our
guide was extremely knowledgeable and pointed out a lot of things we would
have otherwise not noticed. Kids Camp Amelia allows Mom and Dad plenty
of time to enjoy the facilities of the Plantation without the kids for a
while. And there are so many things to do together as family.
For the 4th of July there's even an airshow!
Oh my! I completely forgot about food. There are numerous
dining options for every taste and desire. Looking for a fun and
casual place to take the family for dinner? Try the Falcon's Nest. A
romantic dinner by the sea? Amelia Inn Dining Room will meet your needs.
Incredibly fresh local seafood? The Verandah restaurant comes to mind.
