What is there to do on a Cruise?

Do cruise lines welcome families with children?

More and more cruise vacations are being taken by families with children. Many cruise lines make a special point of providing supervised activities for children ages 3 – 17 (broken into age appropriate groups, of course) especially during the summer and on school holidays. If your children enjoy swimming, sports, games, movies, and the adventure of new places, they'll love a family cruise. You'll find the kids adapt to shipboard life with ease, and you won't have to wonder what they're up to every minute. The children’s staff will help keep them busy and entertained. Best of all, children generally travel at a substantially reduced rate if they share the cabin with their parents. However some of the smaller or more up-scale cruise lines do not have programs for children. If you do plan on taking children on these cruise lines plan on bringing some sort of activities to keep them entertained. You may also find that some passengers on these lines will not enjoy your children. In fact, there are some cruise lines that will not allow passengers under the age of 18.

Is it easy to meet people?

A cruise ship is a great place to make new friends. The atmosphere is cordial and relaxed. And you'll have all kinds of things in common to talk about. You will meet people in a variety of places; at dinner; during cocktails; around the pool; or on excursions ashore. Many lifelong friendships have been made aboard cruises, so don't be surprised if you find yourself making arrangements to meet your new friends aboard ship again next year!

Will there be people like me?

No matter what you've heard to the contrary, there's no such thing as a typical cruise guest! All kinds of people take cruises... of all ages... from all walks of life... singles, couples and families. The type of guests will vary from ship to ship and cruise to cruise.

Can singles have fun on a cruise?

Cruising is ideal for people traveling alone, because it's so easy to meet other people. In fact, ships have parties just for singles early on, so you can start to be involved right away. However most cruises charge a single supplemental rate, usually 150% of the normal fares. Some cruise lines offer a Singles Guarantee Program that assists you in finding a roommate to share a stateroom. If they don’t find roommate for you, you get the room all to yourself.

Is cruising right for honeymooners?

Without a doubt! Cruising offers an atmosphere that's just right for romance...cozy dinners for two, strolling on deck at sunset, dancing the night away (even under the stars) and so much more to remember forever. Most cruise lines can provide special services including renewal of vows and weddings on board. Princess Cruises is currently the only cruise line currently offering weddings at sea. The other cruise lines only offer weddings while in port. We recommend a civil wedding, before any wedding at sea or in a foreign port, just to give you a US marriage certificate. Unusual marriage certificates could cause future problems with legal documents. And who wants to find out 15 years later, that your marriage isn’t recognized in the United States?
