Getting
bumped on a flight is not difficult IF the plane is full. If you
really want to get bumped to get money or free
flight, spend a day at the local airport
and see what flights are always overbooked, then follow the steps below.
If you're just flying on a flight and want to increase your chances of
getting bumped,
these steps should help. Here are the steps to take:
- When you check in at the front desk, not the
desk at the gate, ask
if
the flight is over booked. This will give you an idea of your chances.
If they
say there are plenty of seats, forget it.
If they don*,t say "plenty of
seats", ask to be put on the "to be
bumped"
list.
When you get to the gate check in desk, tell
them your name and that you have volunteered to be bumped.
Stay in the area and listen for
announcements.
The initial offer may be as low as $200 in
free flight tickets, not cash.
If that*,s ok, take it. You should be the first asked since you
volunteered before they asked for
volunteers.
You can turn it
down, but you probably won*,t be asked again.
Be prepared to be bumped, i.e. have some
toilet articles and a change
of clothes just in case they put you up overnight.
The airline will try to get you out on the
next flight, but you can volunteer to be bumped again, to double
your money.
If bumped, ask for a free meal coupon. They
will not offer it, you must
ask for it.
If bumped overnight, ask for a hotel coupon.
They will not normally
offer it.
Make sure you write down or memorize the
names of all the airlines people
you deal with.
Be nice and not demanding.
This does work. My wife and I
have used it when we can afford to be bumped.
